Lebanese University Tripoli
A campus on a hill

Project description

Laceco was designated by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) to design and supervise the construction execution for a Students campus for the Lebanese University in the North. The University has a capacity of 18,000-student, grouped in 8 major faculties, and all supporting roads and infrastructure.

The brief

The Lebanese Government aimed to achieve three objectives:

  • Accommodate a modern Campus in the limited allocated site area,
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the campus by designing the necessary support facilities: library, administrative building, cafeteria, car park and sports center, while making extensive use of underground areas
  • Servicing the new Campus with the adequate infrastructure facilities

Our response

Laceco responded to the above objectives by:

  • Integration of roads network in a high pedestrian occupancy area while respecting the pedestrian safety requirements
  • Designing of two independent networks one for sewage water of 1.8km and the other for rain water of 2.5km collecting the wastewater from the buildings at lowest level floor, and conveying them by gravity to the discharge points
  • Designing of domestic and fire network, including main water reservoir and pumping stations, and around 4km piping with all corresponding appurtenances
  • Designing the Irrigation system that is managed and operated through a centralized automated system The proposed irrigation network consists of main HDPE lines 2.5 km and branching lateral lines of 25 km
  • Designing of medium/low voltage distribution networks, including the related street and landscape lighting
  • Designing of telephone/low current/CCTV distribution networks including inspection hand-holes and duct-banks

Interesting facts

  • Designing around 9m deep gravity manholes depth and crossing major utilities
  • Deficit in Kadisha Electricity Company’s power MV substation available capacity. This deficit was covered by generators set, until the MV source capacity is upgraded
