Al Mamsha
A new pedestrian experience in Sharjah
Project description
Al Mamsha is a mixed use development in Sharjah, UAE that integrates smart living, retail and leisure into a vibrant urban environment. Its physical form segregates vehicular and pedestrian flows and creates opportunities for a medley of urban experiences, with walkable spaces, active retail, entertainment districts, distinguished architecture and quality of public realm.
The brief
Alef Group aimed to achieve three objectives:
- Creating a benchmark urban development in Sharjah
- Developing real estate products that are differentiate from local market offering
- Owning a development that is sufficiently flexible to adapt to market demand
Our response
- Developing a modular masterplan with buildings that can be modified based on target product mix
- Designing modular buildings with floors that can accommodate a multitude of layouts and therefore respond to changing market conditions
- Placing walkability at the center of the development through the integration of narrow alleys and a Khan inspired from old Arab cities
- Curating external areas to optimize pedestrian experience through engineered microclimates
- Adopting an architecture that differentiates itself from the high-rise typology and is inspired by Sharjah’s vernacular
