A mixed use artery of Amman’s new downtown. It includes hotels, offices, residences, retail uses and was designed to attract a flow of pedestrians intrigued by its programmatic variety. The project is currently one of the most successful public spaces in Amman, and is adopted by local communities as a focal point for commercial and civic activities.

Scope: Headquarters building for Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. Two pure cubic office volumes appearing to float above pixelated ground and middle floor volumes. Central atrium carved through building core. Recessed terraces for public programming.
Challenge: Challenge conventional headquarters typology that prioritizes vertical segregation - instead creating horizontal connectivity that fosters creativity, interaction, and collaboration. Integrate dramatic structural expression (cantilevered upper volume) with functional requirements of headquarters operations. Balance public programming at lower levels with private office functions above while maintaining visual and spatial connection throughout.
Approach: Conceptual, functional, and structural integration around central atrium void. Two pure cubic office volumes contrast with deliberately pixelated lower floors - pixelation creates terraces complementing public functions while establishing formal hierarchy. Large steel trusses span atrium, supporting upper volume via tension rods to achieve cantilever - allowing atrium to engage building structurally, not just spatially. Design prioritizes horizontal connectivity over vertical separation - restoring community as core workplace value.
Status: Competition Shortlist
