The Boulevard

A mixed use artery of Amman’s new downtown. It includes hotels, offices, residences, retail uses and was designed to attract a flow of pedestrians intrigued by its programmatic variety. The project is currently one of the most successful public spaces in Amman, and is adopted by local communities as a focal point for commercial and civic activities.

Project Brief

Scope: Comprehensive water supply infrastructure for 25,000 residents across 15 villages in Batroun region. Rehabilitation, extension, and upgrading of 8 existing water networks (Batroun, Thoum, Bsatine Al Oussi, Assia/Zein, Kfarhilda, Dahr Abi Yagi, Kfifane, Bijdarfil). New water supply networks for 5 villages (Hardine, Niha, Kfour el Arabe, Mazraat Bani Saab, Mazraat Kassab). 10km transmission pipelines, 20km distribution pipelines. Two boreholes with drilling and equipment, two water tanks, pumping stations with complete MEP equipment. Network commissioning services. Field data collection, topographic survey, and GIS database integration.
Challenge: Serve 25,000 residents across 15 dispersed mountain villages through combination of rehabilitating aging infrastructure and designing new networks from scratch. Navigate steep topography with significant head differences between storage reservoirs and distribution networks - requiring pressure management to prevent system failures. Integrate new networks with existing infrastructure at multiple connection points. Coordinate with public authorities on interface points and spare capacities. Create comprehensive technical documentation for complex multi-village system.
Approach: Field data collection and topographic survey established baseline for network design. Coordination with public authorities defined new water networks' interface with existing systems (connection points, spare capacities). 10km transmission pipelines and 20km distribution pipelines designed and supervised throughout construction. Two boreholes drilled and equipped, two water tanks constructed, pumping stations with complete MEP equipment installed - providing adequate storage and pressure for mountain distribution. Network commissioning services ensured operational readiness. Project Description
The Boulevard is the mixed use artery of Amman’s new downtown. It includes hotels, offices, residences, retail uses and was designed to attract a flow of pedestrians intrigued by its programmatic variety. The project is currently one of the most successful public spaces in Amman, and is adopted by local communities as a focal point for commercial and civic activities.
The Brief
Abdali Boulevard Company aimed to achieve two objectives:
• Creating a prime pedestrian experience in Amman
• Developing a district that is economically attractive to investors coming from multiple industries (hospitality, corporations, retail, etc.)
Our Response
Laceco responded to the above objectives by:

• Designing a consistent urban framework that nevertheless provided a diversity in the individual architectural character of buildings
• Curating a seamless pedestrian experience in a site that had a challenging topography and was exposed to dominant winds
• Anchoring the site along three platforms linked to each other by a continuous game of terraces, stairs, suspended bridges and esplanades that gently slope down the length of the development
• Conducting value engineering and cost optimization studies to preserve economic viability of the development

Our Response

Laceco responded to the above objectives by:

Designing a consistent urban framework that nevertheless provided a diversity in the individual architectural character of buildings.

Curating a seamless pedestrian experience in a site that had a challenging topography and was exposed to dominant winds.

Anchoring the site along three platforms linked to each other by a continuous game of terraces, stairs, suspended bridges and esplanades that gently slope down the length of the development.

Conducting value engineering and cost optimization studies to preserve economic viability of the development.

Our Response

Laceco responded to the objectives by:

Collecting field data and topographic survey necessary to complete the design of water supply networks,

Coordinating with the concerned public Authorities about the new water networks interface with existing ones (connection points/spare capacities etc)
Designing and supervising around 10km of transmission pipelines and 20km of distribution pipelines,

Designing and supervising the drilling and equipment of two boreholes, two water tanks and related pumping stations with all corresponding MEP equipment.

Networks commissioning services.

Interesting facts:
One of the main challenges was the steep topography and important potential head differences between the storage reservoirs and the distribution networks.

A comprehensive database was fully integrated with special data on topography and geology in Arc View based GIS system.
